We are going to fly into Miami International Airport, rent a car, spend that night in the city.
On Sunday we will start our journey by visiting the first point of interest - Everglades National Park. Prepare to spend half days enjoying the wildlife and everything the park has to offer. After that, we will drive further down to U.S. Highway 1, also known as Overseas Highway that runs from Key Largo south to Key West.
The Florida Keys are a string of tropical islands stretching about 120 miles off the southern tip of the U.S. state of Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. They’re known as a destination for fishing, boating, snorkeling, and scuba diving. They begin at the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas. The nearest point, the southern part of Key West is just 90 miles (140 km) from Cuba.
We will spend this and coming nights on Marathon island and reach out to all other points of interest, including Key West from there. This itinerary covers Everglades National Park, Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and Key West.
