The Historic Core is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles between Hill Street on the West, Los Angeles Street on the East, Third Street on the North, and Olympic Boulevard on the South. It overlaps with the Jewelry District on its western end and Skid Row on its eastern end and contains the Broadway Theater District and the Spring Street historic financial district. The Historic Core is packed with a wealth of landmark buildings including the world's largest concentration of movie palaces as well as former large department stores, financial and other office towers, built chiefly between 1907 and 1931. These are Broadway: Landmarks, Broadway Theater District, Spring Street Financial District, Old Bank District.

Olvera Street (Calle Olvera or Placita Olvera) is a historic district in downtown Los Angeles and a part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. Los Angeles was officially founded in 1781, Olvera Street obtained its current name in 1877. Many of the Plaza District's Historic Buildings are on Olvera Street, as well as some of the oldest Los Angeles monuments including the Avila Adobe built in 1818, Pelanconi House built in 1857, and the Sepulveda House built in 1887. The tree-shaded, pedestrian mall marketplace with craft shops, restaurants and roving troubadours is a popular tourist destination. The street has been described as a "Top Five" in the "Great Streets of America" journal.

Chinatown is a festive destination for dining and shopping. Pagoda-style buildings with red lanterns house traditional Chinese restaurants, dim sum houses, and bakeries, plus specialty grocery stores and gift shops. There’s also the Taoist Thien Hau Temple, small art galleries and dark bars. Foodies head to creative Asian-fusion eateries and the landmark Philippe the Original, lauded for its French dip sandwich.

A stretch of Wilshire Boulevard known as Museum Row has so much to offer. Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), The Petersen Automotive MuseumA+D MuseumCraft and Folk Art MuseumGeorge C. Page Museum, and La Brea Tar Pits pavilions, among others, create "Museum Row" on the Miracle Mile. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) located on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. A new contemporary structure for the museum's theaters is located behind the building.
